about

Li Xi was fronted by Maryann Tran who delivered an elixir of delightful melody and percussive aggression. These two elements are what bonded Li Xi's sound. Their debut album, Meet Me Somewhere, was written in a small furniture warehouse once run by James Vernon. After work, Vernon would record demos and shortly after the band would work out the parts in their rehearsal studio in San Francisco. The album featured Vernon on synthesizer, guitars and percussion, Tran on vocals, synthesizers and keyboards, Will Cline on bass, and Dennis Galway on drums.

Retro pop with warm fuzz, analog synths and earworm hooks define the San Francisco troupe's winding career. Drifting between oxidized psychedelic decimation and melancholic space-aged pop, Li Xi created a sound that dwelled in a world of its own. There's a dreaminess to their aesthetic but the songs are grounded in real, raw emotion.

Stereogum describes their sound as "Incredibly dynamic... buoyantly carried along by a head-bopping, toe-tapping beat... like those early dawn hours on the beach, when the sun first starts to peek through the clouds and is refracted and chopped up among the waves."
